Piyush defended his thesis titled "Innovative Approaches in Quantitative Phase Imaging and Raman Spectroscopy for Enhanced Biomedical Analysis" on 14th August and is now moving to Boston to start his postdoc at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) with Prof. Andy Yun! :)

May 23rd, 2024: Jenn came back to campus for her graduation ceremony and we went out for lunch! 

May 13th, 2024: Lintong and Swati presented posters in INBT's 17th Nano-Bio Symposium. Swati's poster was titled "DNA-Based Nano-Optical Devices for Raman Imaging of Targeted Drug Delivery" and Lintong's poster was titled "DNA Origami-Engineered Plasmonic Nanoprobes for Targeted Cancer Imaging"

April 11th, 2024: Pooja presented a poster titled "Exploring the Impact of Nanostructured Substrates on Rat Cortical Astrocyte Morphology with Quantitative Phase Imaging" at SPIE Photonics Europe 2024 Conference held in Strasbourg, France! 

March 2024: Pooja visited Italy on an exchange fellowship, spending 2 weeks in Rome at CNR-IMM, for our collaboration with Dr. Annalisa Convertino and 2 weeks in Bologna at CNR-ISOF, for our collaboration with Dr. Emanuela Saracino. 

February 9th: Piyush presented a poster titled "Overcoming limitations of Raman spectroscopy for biomedical applications" at the The 2024 Department of Medicine and Whiting School of Engineering Research Retreat in Baltimore, MD

January 15th: Congratulations to Vardhan, who spent the last summer interning with us, for getting a PhD offer is from University of Washington in the Department of Chemistry!

January 11th: Saransh presented a poster “Platform development for bioprocess monitoring with surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy” at the AMBIC Winter Conference in Clemson University!

January 1st: Charting new heights in research: Our PI is starting the year on a high note, now a Professor! 🎂🎉🥳

December 01: Peng gave a talk on "Enhanced photophysical transition dynamics of NV centers in nanodiamond on structured metamaterial platforms" at 2023 MRS Meeting in Boston!

November:  Dr. Emanuela Saracino spent a few weeks from CNR-ISOF, Bologna spent a few weeks with us at Johns Hopkins University for our collaboration on fabrication of fibroin and HTLC substrates and the study of astrocytes and fibroblasts on these substrates 

October 25: Jenn presented a paper on “RaMALDI imaging: a novel multimodal imaging workflow integrating Raman spectroscopic and MALDI mass spectrometry imaging of a single sample” at the 1st Annual Conference on Mass Spectrometry Imaging and Integrated Topics (IMSIS) in Montreal!

October 13: Barman Lab at the SciX conference!

Prof. Barman received the Coblentz Society Clara Craver Award at the SciX 2023 conference in Reno, Nevada! 

Piyush gave a talk on "Development of SERS Sensing Platform for TSH Detection: From Buffer Solution to Patient Samples" and Swati gave a talk on "Enzyme-activated biorthogonal Raman probes for targeted tumor imaging "

September 14: Welcome dinner for Gagan, Anoushka and Arnab!  Gagan joined the group as a post-doctoral scholar and Anoushka and Arnab joined as Ph.D. students! 

August 8: Congratulations Dr. JeongHee Kim! Jenn defended her dissertation titled "Label-free morpho-molecular cellular analysis with Raman and Quantitative Phase Imaging"!

June 29: Dr. Katsumasa Fujita and his lab members visit Hopkins!

June 27: Prof. Barman gave an invited talk on "Molecular probes for Raman spectroscopy" and Piyush presented a poster titled "Speeding up Raman imaging with matrix completion algorithm" in Atlanta, Georgia! 

June 10: Saransh presented a poster at the "AMBIC Summer Conference 2023" on "Deep learning-powered bioprocess monitoring with surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy" in St. Louis

June 8: Jenn presented a poster at the "71st ASMS Conference on Mass Spectrometry and Allied Topics" titled "RaMALDI imaging: a novel multimodal imaging workflow integrating Raman spectroscopic and MALDI mass spectrometry imaging of a single sample" 

May 10: Jenn presented her work at CLEO 2023 in her talk "Quantifying the differentiation of 50B11 dorsal root ganglion cells using quantitative phase imaging"! 

April 26: Raj presented his work on "3-D optical skin and vasculature phantoms" at the DREAMS (Day of Undergraduate Research in Engineering, Arts, Medicine, and the Sciences) event, hosted by HOUR: Hopkins Office for Undergraduate Research! 

April 20: Congratulations to Jenn on her new postdoc position at the Tadesse Lab! We are thrilled to hear that she will be joining the lab as a MIT Postdoctoral Fellow for Engineering Excellence this fall. We are proud to have had her as a member of our lab, and we wish her all the best in her new position. 🎉 😀 

March 14: Congratulations Dr. Zhenhui Liu! Zhenhui defended his dissertation titled “Cellular Biophysics in Cancer and Malaria Progression”!

February 1:  Jenn presented a poster titled "Label-free Characterization and Subtyping of Renal Amyloidosis by Raman Spectroscopy and Machine Learning" at Photonics West 2023 in SF, California! The poster was part of the "Imaging, Manipulation, and Analysis of Biomolecules, Cells, and Tissue" session.
